View a vehicle’s detail and status

Select any vehicle marker on the live fleet map to see its current status at a glance — including speed, driver assignment, last reported location, and how recently the device checked in.

Before you start

  • The GPS Tracking module must be active on your account.
  • A DataLogger device must be installed in the vehicle and reporting data. Vehicles with no recent data show a “Device dark since…” label with a timestamp instead of a live position.
  • You need dispatcher or admin access to view all vehicles. Technicians see their own assigned vehicle.

Steps

  1. Open the Live page in the portal navigation and locate the vehicle on the map. For help opening the map, see View the live fleet map.
  2. Select the vehicle marker on the map. A detail panel opens for that vehicle.
  3. Review the information displayed in the detail panel:
    • Vehicle name — the display name registered in Resources (for example, “Test Truck #1” or “Akteena #30”).
    • Driver — the technician currently assigned to the vehicle. If no driver is linked, this shows NO DRIVER.
    • Last active — the timestamp of the most recent data report from the device. If the device has not reported recently, the panel shows “Device dark since [date and time].”
    • Current speed — the speed value from the most recent GPS event, in your account’s configured units.
    • Current trip — if a trip is in progress, the panel shows trip details including start time and distance covered.
  4. To close the panel and return to the full map view, select elsewhere on the map or press the close control on the panel.

Viewing assets in Live v2

In Live v2, the left panel lists all assets by name with their last-active timestamp before you select them. You can scan the list to identify which vehicles are dark (no recent data) before opening the map.

Result / verify

After selecting a vehicle, the detail panel shows the vehicle’s name, driver, and last-active timestamp. If the device is live, you also see current speed and trip information.

Troubleshooting

  • Detail panel shows “Device dark since…” for all vehicles. No devices are currently reporting. Confirm device power and port connection, then review Verify device connection.
  • Driver shows NO DRIVER. No technician is currently associated with the vehicle in the active trip. This is expected if the vehicle is parked and unassigned.
  • Speed shows 0 but the vehicle is moving. There may be a brief delay between GPS events. Wait 30–60 seconds and check again. If the issue persists, see Device not reporting data.
