Send a payment link

Generate and send a Stripe-powered payment link so a customer can pay an invoice online by card, without needing to be on site.

Before you start

  • Stripe must be connected to your account. Go to SettingsPayments and complete the onboarding flow if you have not done so already.
  • The invoice must exist and have an outstanding balance.

Steps

  1. Go to Payments in the left navigation.
  2. Open the invoice you want to collect payment for.
  3. Select Send payment link from the invoice detail.
  4. Choose how to deliver the link:
    • SMS — sends a text message to the customer’s phone number on file.
    • Email — sends an email to the customer’s email address on file.
    • Both channels can be selected at once.
  5. Review the recipient details. Override the address or phone number if you need to send to a different contact.
  6. Optionally add a short message to accompany the link.
  7. Confirm and send.
The customer receives a message with a secure link to a Stripe-hosted payment page. They can pay using a credit or debit card.

Result / verify

After the customer pays, the invoice status updates to Paid and the payment appears in the Paid this month total on the Invoices page. You may need to refresh the page to see the updated status.

Troubleshooting

  • Send payment link option is not available — confirm Stripe is connected under SettingsPayments. If onboarding is incomplete, the payment features are locked.
  • Customer did not receive the link — verify the phone number and email address on the customer record are correct. Resend the link after correcting any errors.
