Hire Maya — pick an AI receptionist voice

This article covers Step 2 of 5 in AI CSR onboarding: choosing the AI voice that will answer calls for your business. The page is at /receptionist/setup/voice and is titled Meet your team. Switching voices later does not reset your FAQs, transfer rules, or call scoring history — only the name and audio change.

Before you start

  • Complete Step 1 of AI CSR onboarding (confirm your business basics) first.
  • Use a desktop browser — the page displays “Open on desktop to hire your receptionist” if accessed on mobile.
  • Have audio available so you can preview each voice.

The six voices

VoiceAccentPersona
MayaAmerican — Warm MidwestWarm, confident. Asks clarifying questions before booking. Recommended for plumbing, HVAC, and electrical.
JordanAmericanDirect, no-nonsense. Books fast.
EliAmericanCalm, reassuring. Strong empathy for distressed callers.
SageIrishPatient and reassuring. Customer-trust forward.
CaseyBritishPolished, professional. Best with commercial clients.
AveryAmericanEnergetic and approachable. Great for general home services.
The page labels one voice as RECOMMENDED FOR PLUMBING (Maya) based on your business type detected during account setup.

Steps

  1. Go to AI CSR in the left sidebar, then click Review next to Hire Maya — pick your AI receptionist in the onboarding checklist. The voice selection page opens.
  2. For each voice you want to preview, click Listen. A sample greeting plays: for example, Maya’s sample is “Hi, this is Maya at ACME Plumber. How can I help you today?”
  3. If a voice is already selected and playing, use Listen again to replay it.
  4. When you have found the voice you want, click Hire Maya.
  5. A confirmation dialog appears. Click Hire Maya again to confirm, or Cancel to go back and preview others.

Result / verify

After confirming, Step 2 is marked complete in the onboarding checklist. The voice you selected appears as the active voice on the Maya — Settings page under the Voice section.

Troubleshooting

No audio on preview — Check that your browser has permission to play audio and that your system volume is on. The page is blank or won’t load — Open Servinix on a desktop browser. The voice setup page requires a desktop session.
