# Route optimization overview

> An introduction to Servinix route optimization — what it does, who uses it, and how it fits into the dispatch workflow.

# Route optimization overview

Route optimization automatically sequences jobs and assigns them to technicians to reduce total driving time across your fleet. Dispatchers review the suggested routes and commit them with one click instead of building schedules manually.

## What it does

When you run route optimization for a day, Servinix:

1. Takes your list of open jobs (with addresses, appointment windows, and required skills)
2. Takes your list of available technicians (with their start locations, shift hours, and skills)
3. Calculates the most efficient assignment and sequence of jobs across all technicians
4. Returns a proposed set of routes for dispatcher review

The goal is to minimize total driving time across your entire fleet — getting more jobs done in the same hours.

## Who uses it

* **Dispatchers and office managers** run route optimization and review the proposed routes before committing them to the schedule.
* **Technicians** see their resulting daily schedule in the Servinix mobile app, including arrival times and job sequence.
* **Owners and service managers** can review route efficiency over time using the Reports hub.

## How it fits into your workflow

Route optimization is a **recommendation step, not an auto-commit**. The proposed routes are a starting point — you review them on the map, make any manual adjustments, and then commit. Nothing changes in your technicians' schedules until you confirm.

A typical day looks like:

1. Open jobs are added to Servinix throughout the prior day and morning
2. Before dispatch, a dispatcher runs route optimization for the day
3. The dispatcher reviews the map view, adjusts any routes if needed
4. Dispatcher commits — technicians receive their schedules on the mobile app

## Before you run optimization

For best results:

* Technician shifts must be set up in FSM Settings → Shifts
* Technician skills must be configured if any jobs require specific qualifications
* Jobs should have confirmed service addresses and any customer appointment windows recorded
