# Rename or remove a vehicle

> Update a vehicle's display name or deactivate it from Servinix GPS Tracking, including how deactivation affects historical trip data and active alerts.

# Rename or remove a vehicle

Update a vehicle's display name when it changes hands or needs a new label, or deactivate a vehicle that is no longer in service.

## Before you start

* You must have Fleet access.
* Removing a vehicle does not delete historical trip and telematics data — it removes the vehicle from the active resource list.

## Steps

### Rename a vehicle

1. In the left navigation, click **Resources** (under Fleet).
2. In the **Vehicles** tab, locate the vehicle you want to rename.
3. Click the vehicle row to open its record.
4. Update the **Resource name** field to the new display name.
5. Save the record.

### Remove (deactivate) a vehicle

1. In the left navigation, click **Resources** (under Fleet).
2. In the **Vehicles** tab, locate the vehicle you want to remove.
3. Click the vehicle row to open its record.
4. Select the option to deactivate or remove the vehicle. The exact label depends on your account configuration.
5. Confirm the action when prompted.

## Result / verify

**After renaming:** The new name appears immediately in the Vehicles tab, on the live fleet map, and in reports.

**After removing:** The vehicle no longer appears in the active Vehicles tab. Historical data associated with the vehicle is retained for reporting purposes.

## Troubleshooting

* **The vehicle still appears on the live map after removal.** Refresh the map view. If the vehicle had an active trip when it was removed, it may continue to show until the trip ends.
* **Cannot edit the vehicle record.** You may not have the permission level required to edit resources. Contact your account administrator.

**Support note:** Deactivated vehicles are soft-deleted and can be restored by Servinix support. Escalate to engineering if a customer needs a vehicle re-enabled.
