# Verify device connection

> Confirm the Servinix DataLogger is powered, the LEDs behave normally, and telematics data is flowing into the portal after install on a fleet vehicle.

# Verify device connection

**Step 6 of 6 — Verify device connection**

After installing the DataLogger, confirm it is powered and transmitting telematics data to Servinix. Verification involves checking the device's LED indicators at the vehicle and confirming the vehicle appears as active in the Servinix portal.

## Before you start

* The DataLogger must already be installed. Complete the appropriate installation article for your vehicle class before proceeding:
  * [Install DataLogger on a light-duty vehicle](/gps-tracking/device-setup/install-datalogger-light-duty-vehicle) (Class 1–3)
  * [Install DataLogger on a medium-duty vehicle](/gps-tracking/device-setup/install-datalogger-medium-duty-vehicle) (Class 4–6)
  * [Install DataLogger on a heavy-duty vehicle](/gps-tracking/device-setup/install-datalogger-heavy-duty-vehicle) (Class 7–8)
* The vehicle must be registered in Servinix. See [Add a vehicle to GPS Tracking](/gps-tracking/gps-settings/add-a-vehicle-to-gps-tracking) if the vehicle has not yet been added.
* You need access to the Servinix portal with Fleet permissions.

## Steps

### At the vehicle

1. **Start the vehicle.** The DataLogger requires vehicle power to transmit.
2. **Observe the LED indicators on the DataLogger.** LEDs illuminating confirms the device is receiving power from the vehicle's diagnostic port.
3. **Note:** LEDs may extinguish after a period of time. This is normal behavior — the device continues to operate even when LEDs are off.

### In the Servinix portal

4. Open the Servinix portal and navigate to **Live** in the left navigation.
5. On the Live page, look for the vehicle under **Live Assets > Vehicles**. A vehicle with an active DataLogger appears in the vehicle list once the device has established a connection and transmitted its first data packet.
6. Navigate to **Fleet > Diagnostics** to see more detail. The Asset Diagnostic Feed lists active assets by telemetry source. A correctly installed OBD device appears with a telemetry source of **OBD II** and a status other than **Unobserved**.
7. Confirm the vehicle's data in the Diagnostics feed, including battery voltage reading and any DTC codes detected.

## Result / verify

The vehicle appears in the Live Assets list in the Servinix portal and has an active OBD II entry in the Fleet Diagnostics feed. This confirms the DataLogger is installed, powered, and transmitting telematics data successfully. Device setup is complete.

## Troubleshooting

* **Vehicle does not appear in Live Assets after 10–15 minutes:** Confirm the vehicle is running. The device requires vehicle power to transmit. Verify the device is firmly seated in the port. See [Device not reporting](/gps-tracking/gps-troubleshooting/device-not-reporting) for further steps.
* **Vehicle appears as "Unobserved" in Fleet Diagnostics:** The device has been detected but has not yet sent diagnostic data. Start the vehicle and drive briefly to trigger data transmission. If the status does not update, see [Device not reporting](/gps-tracking/gps-troubleshooting/device-not-reporting).
* **LEDs never illuminated during installation:** The device may not be properly seated or powered. Return to the installation article for your vehicle class and re-seat the device.
* **Wrong vehicle location displayed:** Confirm the correct vehicle is associated with the device in the portal. See [Wrong vehicle location](/gps-tracking/gps-troubleshooting/wrong-vehicle-location).
