# Start and end a shift

> How a technician starts their shift in the Servinix Go app, tracks active time, takes breaks, and ends the shift at the close of day for accurate payroll.

# Start and end a shift

Start your shift when you begin the workday to begin tracking time and enable job travel — then end it at close of day to lock your hours and stop trip tracking.

## Before you start

* You must be logged in to the Servinix app as a technician.
* Location, notifications, and motion permissions must be granted. The app checks these before allowing you to start your shift.
* If your organization requires a shift, the **Start shift** button (or your organization's custom label) appears on the home screen. If no shift is required, you see **Start day** instead.

## Steps

### Start your shift

1. Open the Servinix app. The home screen shows a greeting and your next assigned job.
2. At the bottom of the screen, tap **START SHIFT** (your admin may have customized this label, e.g., "CLOCK IN").
   * If your shift is already active from an earlier session, the button reads **VIEW JOBS** — tap it to go to your job list.
3. The **Start shift** bottom sheet appears with a job-count summary and a permissions check row. "Permissions ready" (green checkmark) means location, notifications, and motion are all granted.
4. If the permissions check shows a warning, tap **Open settings**, grant the missing permissions, then return — the check updates automatically.
5. Swipe the **Swipe to start shift** handle to the right to confirm.
6. The app opens your **Job list** screen with a live shift timer in the top-right corner.

### End your shift

1. Open the **Me** tab (bottom navigation bar, rightmost tab).
2. Scroll to the bottom and tap **End shift**. The button only appears when a shift is active.
3. The **End shift** bottom sheet shows **Hours worked** (updating every 30 seconds) and **Jobs completed** for today.
4. Swipe the **Swipe to end shift** handle to the right to confirm.

## Result / verify

**After starting:** The shift timer runs at the top of the job list screen and trip tracking begins in the background.

**After ending:** The timer is gone, today's time entries are locked, and your hours appear in the portal **Attendance** view.

## Troubleshooting

**Permissions warning on the Start shift sheet.** Tap **Open settings**, grant background location, notifications, and motion, then return to the app.

**End shift button is missing on the Me tab.** No active shift is recorded for your account. Check the **Timesheet** card on the Me tab or ask your admin to verify in the Attendance view.
