# Step away from a job (break/pause)

> Record a break or pause mid-job in the Servinix Go app and resume without losing time-tracking context so payroll and labor cost stay accurate.

# Step away from a job (break/pause)

Take a personal break or pause the whole job mid-work, then resume when you are ready to continue.

## Before you start

* You must be on the On Site Working screen (the job must be **In Progress**). Breaks and pauses are only available while actively working a job.
* There are two distinct actions — understand which one you need before proceeding:
  * **Take a break** — your personal break. Only your technician status changes to **On Break**. Teammates assigned to the same job continue working unaffected.
  * **Pause for everyone** — a shared pause. The job status moves to **On Hold** for every technician on the assignment. Use this for unforeseen stops like waiting for a part or a customer delay.

## Steps

### Take a personal break

1. On the working screen, tap the **Break** tool in the tools row (the icon shows a pause symbol; the label reads **Break** or **Pause** depending on your workspace configuration).

2. The **Step away from job** sheet slides up showing two options.

3. Tap **Take a break** (or your workspace's configured break label).

4. The sheet closes and the app opens the **On Break** screen. A timer shows how many minutes you have been on break.

5. When you are ready to return to work, tap the **End break** button (or your workspace's configured label).

6. The app records the break end and returns you to the working screen. Your technician status goes back to **Working**.

### Pause the job for everyone

1. On the working screen, tap the **Break** tool to open the **Step away from job** sheet.

2. Tap **Pause for everyone**. A confirmation dialog appears: **Pause for everyone? — This pauses the job for every technician assigned to it.**

3. Tap **Pause for everyone** to confirm (or **Cancel** to go back).

4. The app posts the pause to the server and opens the **Paused** screen. The job status changes to **On Hold**. All other technicians on the job also see the paused state.

5. A timer shows how many minutes the job has been paused. If the pause was triggered by another technician, the screen shows **Paused remotely** instead of a timer.

6. When work can resume, tap **RESUME JOB**. The job status returns to **In Progress** for everyone on the assignment.

## Result / verify

**After taking a break:** The On Break screen shows the **ON BREAK** badge and a running break timer. Time entries record a Break segment automatically.

**After pausing for everyone:** The Paused screen shows the **PAUSED** badge. All technicians on the job see the pause. The job status in the portal updates to **On Hold**.

## Troubleshooting

**Take a break is greyed out or hidden:** Your workspace may have breaks disabled or restricted to after job end. The reason is shown under the option (for example, *Available after job ends*). Contact your admin to adjust break rules in Settings → Shifts.

**Resume job returns an error:** Another technician may have already resumed the job. The app adopts the server state automatically — if the error persists, pull to refresh on the job list screen.

**Pause for everyone confirmation appeared but no action happened:** The request may have failed due to a network issue. Check your connectivity and try again.
